We offer advice and information on fire safety, home security, falls prevention and child safety.

We can also install a range of free equipment enabling you to have a safer home.

Home Security

It is important to feel secure in your home. Many burglaries are prevented by fitting basic security.

The 'Safe as Houses' project can install a range of simple and effective measures to your home for FREE.

Equipment we can fit includes:

• Window locks

• Door viewers

• Door bars and bolts
• Letterbox covers
• Equipment to help deal with people calling at the door.

Child Safety Equipment

Accidents can happen in any home, it is especially difficult to protect children from injury.

We can help you make your home a safer place for your children.

The 'Safe as Houses' project can install a range of simple and effective measures to protect your children for FREE.

Equipment we can fit includes:
• Cupboard catches
• Window locks
• Furniture corner cushions

Any Camden resident (with children
Aged under four) living in a
Neighborhood Renewal Area* can apply for a FREE home
Safety check. Priority will
be given to families in receipt of benefits or who for other reasons cannot buy or fit the equipment without help.

Fire Safety

It is important to protect your family and home from fire. A working smoke alarm can save lives.

The 'Safe as Houses' project can install a 10 year battery alarm for FREE.

The alarms are designed to be easy to use an have a 'hush' button false alarms.

All Camden residents are eligible for a FREE smoke alarm.

All Camden residents aged over 60 can ask for a FREE home security check. Priority will be given to those living in a Neighbourhood Renewal Area*, owner-occupiers and private tenants.

All work will be done to standards agreed with Camden's Crime Prevention team.

* Neighbourhood Renewal areas:

• Kings Cross
• Caversham
• Highgate New Town
• West Euston
• Camden Centre
• Kilburn
• Holborn
• Adelaide
  If you are unsure if you live in one of these areas, please call us and we will be able to tell you if you are eligible.

• All of these services are FREE - NO CHARGE WILL  BE MADE.
• All work will be carried out to high standards by our fully trained staff.
• Appointments will always be pre-arranged.
• Staff will always carry identification. If you are unsure of who is at your door, or are not expecting us, do not open the door.

Who are we?
'Safe As Houses' is an initiative that aims to improve all aspects-of Health, safety and security in the home for residents of Camden. The work is coordinated by representatives of Camden Council, London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, Primary Care Trust and the voluntary sector.
The project was launched in March 2003 and is funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
